Sydney Water Taxi — Frequently Asked Questions

There is no better way to see Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and Sydney Harbour than from your own private water taxi. Australian owned and run, we pride ourselves on showcasing the harbour’s best sights with the finest service. Answers to the most common questions are below — can’t find yours? Contact us or call 0439 625 377.

Does Sydney have water taxis?

Yes — Sydney has private water taxis operating right across Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River. Majestic Water Taxis runs a fleet of seven limousine water taxis, picking up from Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and almost any wharf, jetty or pontoon on the harbour, from 9:00am to 11:00pm daily.

What are the benefits of using a water taxi?

A water taxi skips Sydney’s road traffic entirely, delivers you door-to-wharf at your waterside destination, and turns the trip itself into harbour sightseeing. You travel privately with your own group, on your own schedule, with BYO drinks and music welcome — and the harbour views come at no extra charge.

Bookings and Payments

How do I organise my trip?

Booking in advance is the best way to guarantee a water taxi — book online or phone 0439 625 377. For same-day bookings we recommend phoning. We take credit card details to secure every booking, and same-day trips need one hour’s notice.

What credit cards do you accept?

Visa, MasterCard and American Express, plus most international banks. Card surcharges apply: American Express 2.0%, Visa and Mastercard credit 1.6%, Visa and Mastercard debit and prepaid 0.9%. Surcharges are indicative and subject to change — see our terms and conditions.

What hours do you operate?

Generally 9:00am–11:00pm. We happily take bookings outside these hours; a late fee applies.

What if we are delayed or running late?

Please have your group ready 15 minutes before departure. Five minutes’ grace is offered, after which waiting time is charged — see our terms and conditions.

Pick-ups, Wharves and Destinations

Where can Majestic pick up?

Almost any wharf, public or private jetty, or pontoon in Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River (owner’s permission required for private jetties). You’ll usually find us at Circular Quay at Harbour Masters and Commissioners Steps, in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Use our wharf finder to find your nearest pick-up point.

Where can we go on the harbour?

Anywhere inside the headlands — Manly, through the Spit to Middle Harbour, Darling Harbour, or up the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers. Offshore whale-watching charters are available for up to 12 passengers.

Can I hire Majestic for a harbour tour?

Yes. As well as point-to-point transfers we run private harbour tours, and our skippers know the harbour well — expect commentary on the sights as you go. Half-hour and one-hour hire rates depend on the day and the number of passengers, so call 0439 625 377 or contact us for current rates.

Can I travel to the harbour islands?

Yes — we are licensed by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to land at all eight Sydney Harbour National Park islands. A small NPWS landing fee and park rules apply.

Can Majestic take me to a missed cruise?

Sometimes — it depends on the charter vessel. Call 0439 625 377 and we’ll advise.

On Board

How do we board and disembark?

Side or stern boarding depending on the destination, always assisted by the captain. Please note our water taxis are not suitable for wheelchair access.

Can we bring our own drinks and music?

Yes — we are BYO friendly, and our sound systems connect to most phones. For safety, smoking is not permitted and intoxicated passengers may be refused.

What type of boat will we travel in?

Sturdy aluminium white limousine water taxis with 360-degree views, spotless comfortable seating and side/stern loading. Luxurious enough to step straight off the boat into a waterside restaurant. See our fleet.

How does weather affect the trip?

Our cabins are enclosed, so wind or rain rarely affect a journey — only extreme weather or water conditions would, and those calls are made for your safety and comfort.

Groups and Occasions

Do you cater for large groups?

Yes. Our largest vessel carries 28 passengers and six more limousine water taxis are available for group bookings; staggered transfers earn a special multi-trip rate.

Can I book a wedding or marriage proposal?

Absolutely. For proposals we arrange a small charter at a private location — equipment off, crew out of sight, with drinks, glasses and music if you wish. For weddings, special touches attract small extra charges, and transfers after 10:00pm attract late fees. See weddings and marriage proposals.

Pricing

How much does a water taxi cost in Sydney?

A Sydney water taxi fare is based on distance and travel time: a base fare covers the first 1–4 passengers, with a per-person rate for extra guests. Transfers after 10:00pm attract late fees. Get an instant price for your exact trip on our water taxi cost page.

How much does a private water taxi cost?

Every Majestic water taxi is private — you never share with strangers — so a private water taxi costs the same as any transfer: a base fare covering the first 1–4 passengers plus a per-person rate thereafter. Private harbour tours and charters are priced by time; call 0439 625 377 for current rates.

Do water taxis cost more than road taxis?

They can — but you skip the traffic, get door-to-wharf service at your waterside restaurant, and the harbour view comes at no extra charge.
