Sydney Harbour is one of the best places to be on Australia Day. With a packed program of events and infinite lunching destinations to escape to, join us for an epic weekend on the water.
From Ferrython to fireworks, get right among the action with our personalised water taxi hourly charters. Feel the rush of Air Force flyovers, the boom of the 21-gun salute, and the inspiring sight of the yacht and tug ballet—all from one of Sydney Harbour’s best vantage points.
At 12.10 pm, Sydney Harbour’s famous ferry race will kick off from Circular Quay. The tradition sees four of the city’s Emerald Class ferries sprint across the harbour at double their usual speed in the race for first place. The boats start at the Sydney Harbour Bridge and complete two laps around Fort Denison before crossing the finish line at the Sydney Opera House.
This year, the competing ferries are May Gibbs, Catherine Hamlin, Bungaree and Fred Hollows. The 20-minute race is best viewed from a Majestic Water Taxi. The programme continues with the tall ships race, a Red Berets Australian Army parachute display, and the Tug and Yacht Ballet—a display of nautical precision as yachts, personal watercraft, tugboats and ferries tack in unison.

The Roulettes will take centre stage at midday for a 13-minute spectacle showcasing the RAAF’s aerobatic skills.
Families can watch from several spots across the harbour as the Air Force’s top pilots perform loops, rolls and high-G turns at speeds of up to 685 km/h.
The aircraft will fly as low as 200 feet, creating a thrilling experience for onlookers.
A Navy helicopter flypast follows the Roulettes. The show runs from 12.00 pm to 12.13 pm.

Families can finish Australia Day celebrations with a free concert on the Sydney Opera House forecourt. The programme also includes a watercraft display in Circular Quay and Australian acts for the whole family. The concert starts at 7.30 pm and runs for two hours, finishing with grand finale fireworks at 9.15 pm.
While the event is free, attendees must secure a ticket to enter. Check ticket availability on the Sydney Opera House website.
